Return to the Cenozoic

It is a small mod focused on paleontology and the study of prehistoric creatures. Creepy, scary monsters of the Cenozoic — were they really that dangerous? It is time to check it out yourself. Find eggs of the new creatures, hatch them with the help of special incubators, and resurrect historical monsters of the Cenozoic era in the cubic world of Minecraft.

Biomes

The mod adds three new biomes to the game.

The first is the icy biome inhabited by the charming beefalos. It differs from the ordinary ice peaks by small ice formations that resemble the eggs of some prehistoric animals.

The second biome is the ocean bed. It differs from the vanilla biomes in that it is filled with bone blocks, clay, and small rocky dungeons. Despite the name, there is not that much water there, so even if it can be called a bottom, it is obviously drying up.

The third biome is caves. These are indeed very large caves with stone pillars and new ores, namely fossils and suspicious bones. Curiously enough, the latter are live and even can run away from you, as they have one health point.

Blocks

The mod adds several new types of fossils that can be collected with the help of a pickaxe with the silk touch enchantment and analyzed on a special table. Besides, you will be able to craft new gray bone blocks from the bones and usual or cute decorative blocks from sea lettuce.

Another new block is the echo ore residues. It contains those very echo shards that could previously be found only in the chests of an ancient city.

Items

The mod adds some new mechanics of interacting with eggs and studying paleontology.

The DNA analyzer helps you to study and understand the DNA of various creatures.

The incubators can be either active or non-working. To work, you will need an active incubator.

Besides, to be able to hatch dinosaur eggs, you will also need the philosopher's stone.

You will also be able to use the stone to craft a container for transporting aquatic animals or wood to create a nest-like box for moving other creatures.

To practice paleontology, you will need a special brush.

In turn, a new bone sword will allow you to protect yourself. It deals 8.5 damage points and can boast a decent attack speed. However, it is uncraftable, as the mod is still under development, and some of its features are not yet available.

Mobs

In fact, the mod is mainly focused on mobs. The creatures added by it are, for the most part, aquatic fossil animals. There are ten of them in total, and you will be able to come across them or their eggs while traveling around the game world. Surprisingly, they are not aggressive and will ignore you by default.

Some of the mobs will drop new food, while others will give you iron, kelp, sea lettuce, raw fish, and several bones. Besides, they will occasionally drop their eggs.

You will be able to get food from the salamanders, dodos, and frogs.

First of all, it is the dodo meat in raw or fried form.

You will also be able to get the salamander meat and also eat it raw or fry it. But if you want a truly satiating dish, you can catch a salamander in a bucket and fry it right there. This soup is as nourishing as possible.

By killing frogs, you will also be able to get frog feet. They are not particularly satiating but regenerate your health quickly and perfectly.
